At The British International School Shanghai, Mathematics remains one of our strongest academic pillars. Reflecting on our whole-school mathematics data has given us a deeper understanding of how our students learn, what supports their progress most effectively, and where we can refine our approach to further elevate outcomes.

BISS is pleased to announce that the UK's A level programme will be offered from August 2026. This is in addition to the IB Diploma, giving students aged 16-18 more pathways to top universities.

Eugene graduated from BISS Puxi in 2022 and is currently studying BA (Hons) Architecture at Edinburgh University. In this interview, Eugene talks us through the valuable experiences he had at BISS, how international education helped to shape his future ambitions, and provides some useful advice for students looking to follow a similar path.

The AmCham Shanghai Art & Culture competition theme this year is “Sprout,” which is a metaphor for spring, revival, and vitality. AmCham encouraged children aged 18 and under to express their ideas through different forms of art, be it a painting, sculpture, photo, short video, design product, or an art installation.

With the holidays upon us, why not follow our top tips to improve your literacy skills this summer? Whatever your level of English, there are lots of fun activities below that you can follow to improve your reading and writing skills. Our English teachers have provided a wide range of recommended books to read, as well as links to websites or Apps which will allow you to test your knowledge with some fun quizzes and games. We hope that you take advantage of these top tips and enjoy your holiday.

This week, we are delighted to share the news and successes of our Year 13 IB Diploma students, who have just received their results. Despite all of the challenges faced, pupils at The British International School Shanghai, Puxi were able to sit their final examinations earlier this summer and they have achieved an excellent set of outcomes. My congratulations to each graduate for their achievements. We believe that there is no limit to what students can achieve socially, personally and academically. This year, our students’ academic results reflect our shared commitment to excellence in this area.

Our Secondary students have been fully engaged in investigating about environmental issues and form groups have worked collaboratively together to come up with different fundraising events for The Million Tree Project (MTP) run by Shanghai Roots and Shoots.

Our department mission was and continues to be, to create an environment that fosters a life-long love of sport through participation, and to provide opportunities to develop, succeed and excel.

On Friday 6 November, all students at BISS Puxi had the opportunity to dress up in animal costumes, safari-themed clothes, or Tanzania flag colours to fundraise for the charity Seeway Tanzania.

We would like to confirm our dates and show times for Seussical. Due to the current restrictions we are still unable to invite parents onto the site to watch the show. As such, we have arranged for two performances to be streamed live, with each performance starting at 14:00 with an expected ending time of 15:15.

On Friday 25 September we celebrated the European Day of Languages 2020. This year our focus at BISS Puxi was on Italian!

It’s great to be back. The school is starting to feel like the BISS Puxi of August 2019, before all of the quarantine and supervision rules and staggered leaving times. It has been a long summer with many people working hard to ensure the school has taken all of the necessary steps to ensure we were able to open again safely.
